Walking holiday B and B Perthshire
From short riverside walks to magnificent munroes Highland Perthshire is a sensational natural environment of forest, hill and moorland walks with pretty hill lochs, gushing burns, and dramatic glens to explore. Where better to start from than Milton Cottage B&B which is surrounded by landscape and wildlife unrivalled anywhere in the UK. There is a map of the area surrounding Milton Cottage on the wall at the B&B for you to choose where to walk next! Maps can be bought at the Newsagent in Dunkeld.
Highland Perthshire boasts a large number of munroes (hills over 3000ft), Schiehallion (Hill of the Fairies)one of Scotland's most shapely of hill casts a watchful eye over to Rannoch Moor in the West and back down Loch Tummel and Aberfeldy to the East. It is an easy and superb ascent with a new path built by the John Muir Trust which bought Schiehallion recently. Starting from the Braes of Foss car park (GR752557) follow the path which takes you round and up the south side. It is very obvious the whole way up. There are several false summits passing various cairns until you reach the summit (GR715547). This is within easy driving distance from Milton Cottage and is approximately 2-2.5hrs up and down - so you don't have to be too fit!
If you are looking for shorter walk the Hermitage, owned by the National Trust for Scotland is a short drive away with the tallest tree in Britain.
Glen Lyon, said to be Scotland's most beautiful glen is little known, and little visited, and it is only when you look at it on a map that you realise just how significant a presence it is in the Central Highlands. The glen is a cul-de-sac, which saved it from becoming a major through route in centuries past, or over-popular with tourists today.
Its west end lies at lonely Loch Lyon, hiding just behind the mountains to the east of Bridge of Orchy. It almost breaks through to the route of the West Highland Railway and A82: but not quite, and the only through route is on foot. There are numerous walks and climbs in the hills surrounding Glen Lyon including Ben Lawers.
There are numerous other walks of differing standards in the immediate area round Milton Cottage. For more sedate walks Milton Cottage is situated on the edge of the Tay Forest Park which has miles and miles of tracks. The estate of Kinnaird marches with Dalguise and they have tracks for miles westwards over the moors to hill lochs.
Why not take a walking break. Packed lunches can be provided and drop off and collection of walkers can be arranged.
